Who is Greta Thunberg?

Swedish environment activist Greta Thunberg was nominated for Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 following a remarkable year in which the teenager’s “school strike for climate” movement became famous worldwide.

Greta Thunberg began a lone protest outside Sweden’s parliament in October 2018 when she was 15, saying she would refuse to attend school on Fridays until the government tackled the growing climate and ecological crisis.

In the following 12 months, she became one of the world’s most talked-about people. She was even been invited to speak at the UN general assembly –where she made Donald Trump furious– and she has inspired global protests attracting hundreds of thousands of young campaigners.

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words”, the teenager told world leaders during her emotional and confrontational speech at the UN in September 2019.

“And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”.

La activista ambiental sueca Greta Thunberg fue nominada al Premio Nobel de la Paz en 2019 tras un año notable en el que el movimiento de la adolescente llamado "huelga escolar por el clima" se hizo famoso en todo el mundo.

Greta Thunberg comenzó una protesta en solitario frente al parlamento de Suecia en octubre de 2018, cuando tenía 15 años, diciendo que se negaría a asistir a la escuela los viernes hasta que el gobierno abordara la creciente crisis climática y ecológica.

En los siguientes 12 meses, se convirtió en una de las personas más comentadas en el mundo. Incluso fue invitada a hablar en la Asamblea General de la ONU, donde hizo enfurecer a Donald Trump, e inspiró protestas globales que atrajeron a cientos de miles de jóvenes activistas
